Satellite Broadcast
LESN is the Lehigh Educational Satellite Network--a satellite network which carries live, on-campus classes to students at multiple corporate sites, enabling them to pursue graduate and continuing education at work.
Now full-time working professionals can continue their education without the hassle of commuting. Students attend classes in a conference or classroom at work where they watch a video monitor carrying a live broadcast of a class being held on Lehigh University’s campus. During class, corporate students interact with the instructor and other students by phone, fax, computer or whiteboard. On-campus and satellite students work together on team projects and papers and share their professional experiences.
To receive LESN broadcasts, a corporate site requires a Ku-Band downlink and two NDS MPEG-2 DVB digital receivers which will provide dual receive capability to accommodate simultaneous broadcasts of courses. There are various packages of downlink equipment that are affordable for almost any organization, even those with no equipment at the present time. To take advantage of all available LESN programs, two classrooms are needed, each equipped with a video monitor, phone, fax machine, VCR and interactive computer system capable of access to the World Wide Web. We provide complete technical information and assistance for any firm interested in receiving Lehigh’s programs.
Web-Based Programs
Lehigh has added web-based streaming-video courses to the University’s distance education offerings. Lehigh offers the MBA degree degree in a mixed mode format with select online concentrations available. Our Supply Chain Management certificate is available online in its entirety. We also offer a Project Management certificate program in a hybrid format. The technology will mean greater flexibility for continuing and new students, and it will allow us to reach those who want or need to take courses in their homes and international students.
Whatever the technology Lehigh uses to deliver distance education courses, our goals remain the same. We are dedicated to providing educational opportunities to adult men and women at locations that are accessible and cost-effective. Distance education students are important to Lehigh, and the program strives to maintain the same level of quality of instruction and student service that is available to on-campus students.
